Cleft and craniofacial conditions can affect appearance, as well as a child’s ability to talk, eat, drink, smile and kiss. Prenatal detection and counseling help prepare parents for the interdisciplinary care a child needs. Surgical cleft repair begins at about four months of age, with other surgeries planned as the child ages.
