Dr. Karen Berken, MD, Discusses Diagnosing and Treating Endometriosis on KTBS Healthline 3
May 8, 2025Endometriosis is a common gynecological issue for women. The leading theory for this condition is that some menstrual bleeding can spill backwards in what’s called retrograde menstruation. Living uterine cells may then seed anywhere in the pelvis, which can cause pain or fertility issues. While an ultrasound or imaging study may detect a large cyst, surgery is often needed for a firm diagnosis and treatment.
Women’s health can depend on routine exams and pap smears to screen for diseases that are treatable by ob-gyn doctors.
Dr. Berken practices obstetrics and gynecology at Willis Knighton Women’s Health Associates.
