Dr. Sarah Rainwater, Discusses Summer Sun Safety with Sunscreen

June 9, 2025

Protect your skin with sunscreen whenever you’re outdoors this summer. You'll avoid painful sunburn and reduce your risk of skin cancer now and in the future. Enjoy a safe summer in the sun with these tips:

  • Apply sunscreen at least 15 to 30 minutes before sun exposure.
  • Help kids and your family apply sunscreen in those hard-to-reach places on the back and behind the neck.
  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially when you’re in the water.
  • Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
