Joseph Dugas, PhD, Elected Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine

August 6, 2025

Joseph Dugas, PhD, clinical physicist and medical physics residency director of Willis Knighton Cancer Center, has been named a Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). The honor recognizes his exceptional contributions to the field of medical physics through research, education and leadership.

Dugas received the distinction during the AAPM’s 67th annual meeting and exhibition in Washington, D.C. on July 28. AAPM is an organization of more than 9,700 medical physicists in 90 countries

“We are proud of our physicist Dr. Joe Dugas, PhD, for this fine accomplishment,” said Lane Rosen, medical director of Willis Knighton Radiation Oncology. “He has worked tirelessly for AAPM and resident education issues while serving full time as a clinical medical physicist at Willis Knighton Radiation Oncology. Becoming a fellow of AAPM is recognition of these efforts.”

A Louisiana native and LSU alumnus, Dugas received his PhD in physics from Washington University in St. Louis and completed a medical physics residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Currently, he is the Southwest Chapter-elected director of the AAPM board, vice chair of AAPM’s regional organizations committee, and on both the governance and communications coordination committee. Dugas’ true passion for residency training is exemplified by his work as vice chair of the work group on periodic review of medical physics residency training, as a former member of the medical physics residency training and promotion subcommittee and as a CAMPEP reviewer. He has also held leadership positions on the regional level and is a frequent mock oral examiner.
