Steroid Injection for Knee Pain (Fluoroscopic-Guided Method)

Overview

This is an injection of steroid into the knee joint. We often use it to treat the pain and inflammation of knee arthritis.

Preparation

To begin, we numb the tissue of your knee. We position your knee under a video x-ray device called a "fluoroscope." We use it to guide a needle through the numbed tissue and into the knee joint. Now, we inject some dye through the needle. The dye helps us make sure the needle is in the right place.

Injection

Now, we inject the medication. It's a mix of anesthetic and steroid. It reduces inflammation and relieves pain.

End of procedure

After the injection, you may feel some soreness. Your knee may feel sore for a few days. And, the injection may need to be repeated to give you full relief. Follow your doctor's care plan.
