Philips Ingenia MR-RT MRI Simulator

Willis Knighton Cancer Center is home to a Philips Ingenia system for magnetic resonance imaging in radiation therapy (MRI-RT). Often used in conjunction with other imaging methods, MRI provides improved organ and soft tissue visualization for radiotherapy treatment planning, which allows magnetic resonance simulation to enhance the accuracy of therapy. This MRI simulator was the second unit of its kind to be installed in the United States.

Willis Knighton was also the first site in the United States to offer Philips MRCAT (Magnetic Resonance for Calculating Attenuation) Pelvis, an innovative technology providing both soft tissue visualization and tissue density maps from a single MRI exam. MRCAT offers the possibility of MR-only radiotherapy simulation, eliminating the need for a secondary CT and providing additional patient safety by reducing imaging dose. MRCAT provides our doctors all the information necessary to create a patient’s radiotherapy treatment plan accurately and efficiently.
