Kidney/Pancreas Transplantation
When your kidney failure is caused by insulin-dependent diabetes, your doctor might recommend a combined kidney and pancreas transplant so you can regain control of your health. This transplant helps your kidney filter out waste, which can make dialysis no longer needed. At the same time, your new pancreas makes insulin to control your diabetes. You’ll have more freedom to get back to your routine.
Indications for kidney/pancreas transplantation at Willis Knighton John C. McDonald Transplant Center:
- Chronic renal disease defined as GFR less than or equal to 20 ml/min
- Dialysis dependence
- Insulin use
- Age greater than or equal to 18 years old at the time of listing
